Abstract

Educational mismatch has emerged as a major challenge in Uzbekistan, affecting labor productivity and human capital development. This study examines the extent, causes, and policy implications of educational mismatch using secondary data from the World Bank, International Labor Organization (ILO), Asian Development Bank (ADB), UNICEF, and official government statistics. A mixed-methods approach, combining descriptive statistical analysis and thematic synthesis, was employed to evaluate labor market trends and employer perspectives. The findings indicate a significant gap between education outcomes and labor market needs, reflected in widespread qualification mismatch, shortages of practical and digital skills, weak university–industry collaboration, and persistent gender disparities in youth employment. The study identifies outdated curricula, limited technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and insufficient labor market information systems as key drivers of the mismatch. It concludes that strengthening curriculum relevance, expanding industry partnerships, modernizing TVET, and improving labor market forecasting are essential to enhance graduate employability, increase workforce productivity, and support Uzbekistan's sustainable economic development
